Ultimate Throwback: The Memories of the 90's

I was talking to my cousin while he was playing games with his tablet. "Pat, tara maglaro ng piko." He kept on tapping the screen as if he didn't hear anything. Then all of a sudden, he responded, "Te Allen, ano yung piko? Ganito din ba yun katulad ng Subway Surfers?".
And I was like \_(-.-)_/ .

I can say that I was so lucky to be born on the 1990's. We were so blessed to go through our very own culture and tradition and at the same time, experience the advancement of technology from Basic phones to Smartphones; from Abacus to Netbook; from patintero to Call of Duty and so on and so forth. I just missed those times when Tom Sawyer and his friend go for an adventure, chinese garter is a test of determination and courage and one of the well-known social media platforms was Friendster (and you always reply "Thanks for the add" *with glitters* *shimmering* *sparkling layout* *winking smiley* after confirming a friend request).

Without further ado, here's my ultimate throwback. Let's see if you can relate.

10. F.L.A.M.E.S

Ever tried calculating your lovemometer using FLAMES? You can use FLAMES to try out your luck with your crush. Have you experienced being caught up by your teacher while doing this? What's the score? Angry? Marriage? Engage? or.. just Friends?  (Aaaww)
Whatever it is, you're just clinging to this game and sometimes, it's your only hope. You always believe that Assuming is far different from expecting.
You expect something (Maybe Love or whatever) but most of the times, you assume about everything(especially Marriage) and then eventually using the surname of your crush as yours.

9. Friendster

Still remember FS (Friendster)? It was the craze back then when we were in our teenage years. Earlier I just remembered Friendster so I went and check it out. It is not a social media website anymore. It is an online gaming website now! (http://www.friendster.com/)

Did you know:
Friendster became one of the leading websites in many Asian countries from 2002 to  2005. It was considered as the #1 most visited site in the Philippines and Indonesia and ranked second in the most visited sites in Singapore and Malaysia according to Alexa

8. Paper Fortune Teller

I bet you also believed in this one, simple, white piece of paper with numbers, colors, fortunes and misfortunes.

Did you know:
This shape was introduced to the English-speaking world under the name salt cellar in the 1928 origami book Fun with Paper Folding by Murray and Rigney (Fleming H. Revell company, 1928, p.10). The use of paper fortune tellers in England has been recorded since the 1950s.

7. VHS (Video Home System)

Before VCDs and DVDs and Blue-ray and Torrents and movie downloading and online watching, there was  once called a VHS.

VHS Player

Did you know:
In 1994, Disney released the VHS edition of 'Snow White'  and it's the record-breaker for Disney’s animated classics, selling nearly 50 million copies worldwide

6. Elementary Favorite Snack
Yeah! I really loved these snacks. Uhm, I admit, I've been eating Iced Gem since I was a kid. Toppings taste the same. I've been searching for Pompoms up until now. For me, this still tastes better than any other snacks nowadays.
Ice Gem Biscuits

Sweet Corn, Ice Scramble, PomPoms
Did you know?
Contrary to popular belief, Ice Gem biscuits didn’t originate from Asia. In 1850, Hutley and Palmer, a biscuit company from Berkshire, discovered miniature biscuits by accident. These small biscuits—aptly named “Gems”—came after the company experimented with some new biscuit technology. The icing on top was only introduced in 1910 and since then, childhood snacks all over the world have never been the same

5. Classic Traditional Games
Long before iPad, Xbox, and PSP bombarded us with visually stunning games, we were just simple kids playing simple toys.

Did you know?  The world's largest rubber band ball weighs 4,594 pounds

Chinese Garter, Tagu-Taguan, Teks, Piko, and Tumbang Preso

Pick-up Stick, Beyblade, and Plastic Balloon
4. All-time favorite Boy Bands

An empty, street, an empty house a hole inside my heart. I'm all alone, the rooms are getting smaller..
You treat me like a rose, You give me room to grow. You shone the light of love on me....
Bet you're singing with your mind.

Can you spot Justin Timberlake in this picture?

3. Pinoy TV Shows

You still know the tune of the theme song of Hiraya Manawari and Sineskwela. You also became attentive in all the Math Tinik sessions.

THEN....
Palikpik(Sheena Ramos), Kulitsap (Maan Munsayac), and Agatom (Brenan Espartinez)
NOW....
Kulitsap (Maan Munsayac), Agatom (Brenan Espartinez), and Palikpik(Sheena Ramos),

Did you know?
Sine'skwela is the first Educational Television show of ABS-CBN.  It was alternatively known as "School on Air,"

2. Pinoy Cartoons

Who would ever forget Princess Sarah? Tom Sawyer? Cedie Ang Munting Prinsipe? Julie Abbot? Heidi? and other characters shown below? Do you always play Sara Sara Prinsesa, Lavinia Lavinia inggitera, Lotie, Lotie iyakin, Emengard, Emengard antukin?

I still remember the moment when Cedie played his flute that served as his refuge in the midst of sadness.

Watch the video below and be amazed!
Together, let's hear the voices behind our favorite cartoon characters.
I can't imagine the person behind the voice of Ash of Pokemon! Wow! Just wow.

1. The Unbreakable Nokia 3310!

Your childhood will not be complete without these Nokia Phones. Famous amongst the lineup is the Nokia 3310. If you had this in your pocket, you're already a rich kid. You always play snakes and space impact. If it gets boring, you'll start to play pairs or bantumi.

According to Wikipedia, "the 3310 is known for having many features that were rare for the time. These include many utilities, such as a calculator, Nokia network monitor, stop watch, and a reminder function. It has four games; Pairs II, Space Impact, Bantumi, and the hugely popular Snake II. The Nokia 3310 could be customized with interchangeable covers, and thousands of different designs have been produced by various companies. It also has 35 ringing tones built in with space for even 7 custom tones.

So  many features! However I think my favorite feature was its durability.

Did you know?
The Nokia 1100 is the world's best selling phone handset. Total of 250 million 1100 units were sold since its launch in late 2003, making it the best-selling consumer electronics device in the world. Nokia dispersed 3310 with total of 126 million units on 2000 while Apple best selling product, IPhone 5 sold 91 million units on 2012. Samsung's best-selling smartphone is Galaxy III with over 60 million units sold last 2012-2013. Imagine how Nokia made history in Mobile industry.

3310 memes helped Nokia stay relevant at the back of people’s minds even if they were getting ridiculed.
Here’s a gallery of memes I found lying around on the interwebs

For all the Nokia users out there, how will you unlike this indestructible phone? Comes in several "Cool Colors" and doesn't require a screen protector?
